Lutheran Youth Organization
It is a banner year for the synodical Lutheran Youth Organization as we take this first year to build a strong foundation for a new, gift-based youth ministry opportunity. The Synod Youth and Family Ministry (SYFM) team is committed to identifying, nurturing, and developing, youth leaders in the church. We will provide an opportunity for the youth to identify their gifts and work together as a part of one of these four distinct teams:
Worship and Music
Responsible for planning and helping to lead worship at each synod youth event and providing leadership for the prayerful and spiritual life of the youth of the synod
Service and Outreach
Responsible for planning and leading service projects during the synod youth events and providing leadership for additional service opportunities throughout the year
Fellowship
Responsible for planning fellowship activities during synod youth events and contributing to the climate of Christian hospitality throughout synodical youth & family ministry
Small Groups
Responsible for planning and leading small group Bible studies during the synod youth events and serving as small group leaders
In addition to the involvement in synod-specific events and ministries, the teams will engage in learning and discussion based around the focus of their team. Each youth is also connected by an adult mentor in their own congregation so this knowledge can be brought back to their home church.
Each of these groups is led by one youth and at least one adult mentor. The groups will meet quarterly with the other teams.
We have already begun this work. If you would like to learn more about it, please read the LYO description, letter and application (all are in pdf format) or contact Ed Kay, Coordinator of Youth & Family Ministry. We encourage all 9-11th graders to prayerfully consider being a part of this ministry.
